“Attention passengers, this is a journey with an unclear destiny, there are no connecting flights or the right to a refund for your ticket. In case you panic, there is a bag under the front seat so that you can breathe deeply, count to ten, look up at the sky and ask for patience, looots of patience.”

The majority of us are not prepared to become mothers but we give in to this mission without thinking about receiving anything in exchange, promptly willing to multiply ourselves into 3 or 4 people at the same time, in order to fulfill our duty with honor and merit.

A mother sings, dances, plays, makes up stories, juggles, creates recipes, rolls on the floor… and does whatever else is necessary just to see a smile on her child’s face. That is all that she waits for and desires: their true happiness. But with the passing of years, her old tricks lose their effect.

How do you educate your children in a time in which all of your concepts and values have lost their meaning? What do you do when you have already lost the control? Is it possible for there to exist a “magic formula” so that our children don’t become one more in an unbalanced society? For those of you are mothers, or plan to be one day, and for all those that have this role, every Wednesday we will be here, sharing personal experiences, giving tips, current news and clearing up any doubts.

My name is Patricia Barboza, I got married 14 years ago and I have a 12 year old daughter, Isabella (better known as Bella). I am a very demanding mother, a bit annoying, but I’m not the “sticky” kind. The character that I best identify myself with is the cleaning robot from the movie Wall-E, M-O. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3YWXOwYT3Y).

I was a orthodontist, I worked for 2 years in this profession but 10 years ago I stopped saving teeth in order to save souls- nothing is more valuable than souls! I am a pastor’s wife, currently we are in Spain but we have lived in Brazil (I’m from Goiania), United States and Portugal.

I invite you to join me in learning (I also learn everyday) how to be a mother- after all, you only have one mother!! Next week I’ll share a bit of how everything began…

A big hug!

Patricia Barboza
